Periodontal Plastic Surgery

Periodontal surgery is great procedure for covering unpleasant, sensitive, or exposed tooth roots or to prevent further gum recession. If you are not pleased with the aesthetics of short teeth, this can be remedied with periodontal plastic surgeries.

Although your teeth may appear short, they are actually in their proper shape and length. The reason teeth may appear shorter is because they are covered with too much gum tissue. This can be reversed with a crown lengthening procedure.
During crown lengthening, the shape of excess bone and gum tissue is altered to allow more natural tooth to be exposed. Multiple teeth can be treated to make the gum line even and create an aesthetically improved smile.

An additional cosmetic procedure is the soft tissue graft. This is performed to cover exposed tooth roots, prevent further gum recession, and protect the roots from decay and tissue loss.
Tooth loss can cause the jawbone to recede and create an unnatural, unpleasant appearance. It forms an indentation in your gums and jaw, creating a more aged appearance. The look of your mouth will be compromised due to the spaces under and between replacement teeth. They may appear to have a higher length than adjacent teeth.

Bone grafting after tooth loss can also preserve the socket and decrease the risk of gum and bone loss. Less shrinkage allows for an aesthetic restoration, which includes a dental implant or fixed bridge placed around the replacement teeth.
